Even if everything under the hood of your Cadillac is running in optimal condition, this doesn’t mean you’ll get the best performance out of your car. If your tires aren’t right, you won’t get the smoothest – or safest – ride. This is why it’s vital that your treads are deep enough, and our Cadillac service center has some tips that will help you measure them.
The Penny Test
Unless your tire treads are really low or maybe balding, you probably won’t be able to tell whether or not they have a good depth. Fortunately, measuring them is pretty easy, and all you need is a penny.
Take a penny and insert it into a tread groove with Lincoln’s head facing down. Now, see how much of his head is visible. If most of it is covered, your tread is deep enough. If you are able to see most or all of his head, it’s too shallow.
It’s important to not only do the penny test on every tire but also on various spots on each tire.
Decide If You Need a Replacement
If the treads on your tires are deep, you’re good to go. However, if they aren’t, this isn’t something you want to ignore. Treads play a major role when it comes to traction, and if they aren’t deep enough, you won’t have adequate stopping ability. If you need a new tire or perhaps a full set, make an appointment with our service center at Fields Cadillac St. Augustine.
