Connect Your Cables

It’s important to keep a set of jumper cables in your car. Once you find these, it’s time to locate a working vehicle. Once the booster vehicle is parked nose-to-nose with your car, you can connect the cables.

First, attach one red clip to the positive terminal (plus sign) on the dead battery. Then, take the other end and connect it to the same place on the working battery. Next, attach the black cable to the negative terminal (minus sign) on the working battery. Don’t connect the other black end to the dead battery. This needs to be attached to an unpainted surface of your car, such as the engine block, to prevent

Get Things Started

Now, turn the engine in the car with the working battery on and let it run for a few minutes. Then, try to start your vehicle. If it doesn’t turn on, check to make sure that the cables are hooked up properly. If it does start, keep it running for 15-20 minutes to ensure your battery keeps its charge. Finally, disconnect the jumper cables in the reverse order that you connected them.
